Knowledge management. What does it mean?

Let’s start by defining what knowledge is. It is everything that we learn, and that is part of the intangible assets of the organization.

Knowledge management

Knowledge Stages and Knowledge Management Scope

We manage knowledge to:

  • Reduce dependency on implicit learning.
  • Minimize the loss of the intellectual capital of organizations.
  • Stimulate creativity and innovation.
  • Increase the capacity and quality of response to the changes that the business requires.
  • Improve the quality and efficiency of management.
  • Facilitate organizational learning.

We manage knowledge to generate order, to be able to operate in a standard and efficient way.

Each organization must manage knowledge according to its requirements. Not in all cases will it have the same knowledge or the same detail, the level of depth with which we address the topics also differs (depending on who needs the information). Still, we must use basic techniques so that our management is efficient:

  • Capture knowledge.
  • Organize it (segmentation according to roles or times of use).
  • Store it to share it.

Once collected, we must design our users’ interaction to ensure they can consume the information when, how, and where they need it.
